The Department was notified it had won the American Society for Public Administration’s 2012 Public Integrity Award, which will be presented March 6 during the ASPA awards ceremony in Las Vegas. “This is a very important achievement,” said Will County Executive Larry Walsh. “Land Use Director Curt Paddock, and his staff have worked very hard to bring transparency, commitment and caring to all that they do for the citizens of Will County. | Will County and Waste Management announce landfill gas-to-energy plant opens - Friday, December 16, 2011 JOLIET – Officials from Will County and Waste Management announced today the gas- toenergy plant located at the county-owned Prairie View Recycling and Disposal Facility is up and running. The power generated from the methane gas created by decaying garbage is being harnessed and sent to an electric power grid to be sold to local electricity consumers. Will County Executive Larry Walsh said the completion of this plant will bring an environmentally safe source of energy to residents of Will County for many years to come. “I applaud the efforts of our Resource Recovery and Energy Division and Waste Management in moving this project from concept to reality,” Walsh said. “This is another great example of public-private partnerships that work to serve the needs of our local residents. | Executive Larry Walsh: Will Co. will move on - Wednesday, July 20, 2011County Executive Larry Walsh is looking to do more than weather the financial crisis, he wants Will County to be poised to get ahead when it finally passes. "Will County must always be prepared for the rebound of the economy," Walsh said during his annual state of the county address at Tuesday's board meeting. | Will County's Green mission gets national attention - Sunday, March 13, 2011Will County continues to be recognized for its green initiatives on the national level. In January, during the National Association of Counties Forum on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Los Angeles, Will County Board member Jackie Traynere and Will County Land Use Director Curt Paddock were featured in a video produced by the association about green initiatives across the country. The purpose of these videos is to share information about how counties are employing green initiatives to save taxpayer dollars, help local economies, and create green jobs. | County Executive Walsh elected president of Metro Counties -- Friday, January 28, 2011JOLIET – Will County Executive Larry Walsh has been elected president of Metro Counties of Illinois, a consortium of the 14th largest counties in the state. Walsh was elected at the group’s Monday, Jan. 24, meeting. He succeeds Suzi Schmidt of Lake County, who was elected to the State Senate. He had been the group’s vice president for four years. Walsh also served as a State Senator from 1997 to 2005. “I am honored to be chosen president of this organization,” said Walsh. “Metro Counties works on issues important to all of its members. | Will County Government furthers its green mission -- Sunday, July 11, 2010JOLIET -- Will County continued its commitment to "going green" as workers installed a green roof on the county office building, 302 N. Chicago St. The green roof, which seeks to reduce energy costs and offer other environmental benefits, is the first of its kind in downtown Joliet. As part of a $3.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, Will County was able to complete this project. The 5,920-square-foot GreenGrid roof contains sedum and other perennial plant life pre-planted in 2-by-4 foot trays. Approximately 740 of these modular sections will cover a large portion of the rooftop. Will County Executive Larry Walsh said this project is another piece of the county's larger green initiative program, which includes an aggressive retrofit of county buildings, a gas-to-energy plant at the Will County-owned Prairie View landfill in Wilmington, and a variety of educational efforts directed toward students. read more ... |

| Will County, WM planning a green energy plant at Illinois landfill Friday, May 22, 2009Officials of Will County and Waste Management of Illinois, Inc. today announced a plan to jointly develop a landfill gas-to-energy plant at the Prairie View Recycling and Disposal Facility near Wilmington. Will County officials said they intend to apply for federal economic stimulus funds earmarked for renewable energy projects to help finance the project. The Elwood farmer was brand new to Springfield’s legislative scene when he was appointed in March to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Joliet lawyer Tom Dunn.
